Three addresses on Colorado Boulevard are getting new names this fall. 1958 was Cheebo. 1565 was Eagle Rock Juice Co. 1632 was Malbec Market for ten years. A fourth address, 1581, is becoming a music school.
Three of the four newcomers already run a business somewhere else. A Los Feliz bookstore that turns 30 this fall, a French bakery from the Burbank and Toluca Lake area, and a national music-lesson franchise each picked Colorado Boulevard for their next location. The fourth newcomer is a ten-year Eagle Rock restaurant that relaunched under a new name. As of today, none of the three planned openings has a confirmed open date. Below is each arrival, what it replaces and where it stood as of October 7, 2026.
The biggest change is a bookstore going into a building that has housed restaurants for years. In April, the Los Angeles Times reported that Skylight Books had signed a lease at 1958 Colorado Blvd. The space is nearly 6,000 square feet and will have room for a cafe. The Los Feliz store on Vermont Avenue is about 3,500 square feet, so the Eagle Rock store will be the larger of the two.
The building's past explains why the cafe is possible and why the timeline is tight. The Times noted that the space had been home to various eateries, most recently Cheebo. Skylight has to remove a massive pizza oven and a commercial kitchen before the shelves go in.
Mary Williams, Skylight's co-owner and general manager, told the Times why the bookstore chose Eagle Rock:
"Our goal is really to take what we're already doing in Los Feliz and bring it to another neighborhood that would welcome that kind of curation, which is why Eagle Rock could be a good fit for us."
According to Williams, the cafe is the main difference between the two stores. Skylight also hopes to add a beer and wine license. She said section sizes may shift after opening, depending on what Eagle Rock readers respond to. The big ficus tree stays a Los Feliz feature.
Status as of October 7: The target is late October. Williams said the store's architect called that "a pretty ambitious timeline." We found no announced opening date. The October 2026 page of Skylight's events calendar lists events at the Vermont Avenue store and one offsite event, with nothing at the Eagle Rock address so far. Skylight has said it will post Eagle Rock news on its social media accounts and in its newsletter.
The same pattern repeats in the 1500 block, where two newcomers are moving in a few doors apart.
The former Eagle Rock Juice Co. space at 1565 Colorado Blvd. is becoming a French bakery. Its name, Lou The French On The Rock, plays on the original shop's name. The Eastsider reported that it is an expansion of Lou The French On The Block, a bakery in the Burbank and Toluca Lake area.
The baker, Laurent Lou Correa, came to Los Angeles in 2012. He made pastries for Les LILA for two years, started a catering business in 2014 and opened his first storefront in 2016. Eagle Rock gets a bakery with a decade of local business behind it.
Status as of October 7: Bakery staff told The Eastsider to expect a soft opening at the end of September and a grand opening in October. We found no published confirmation that either has happened. The bakery's location page still lists only the original shop, with Friday through Sunday hours, and no Eagle Rock hours yet.
A few doors down at 1581 Colorado Blvd., School of Rock is opening a location that teaches guitar, drums, bass, keyboards and vocals in a performance-based format. Its opening date has moved more than any other on this list:
Status as of October 7: The school is not open yet. The location page lists closed hours for every day of the week, and October 18 is still eleven days away.
The one change on this list that is already complete didn't come from outside the neighborhood. According to The Eastsider, Malbec Market closed after ten years in Eagle Rock and reopened as Carnivorous. The Eastsider described a chef-driven menu of premium burgers, choris and bowls, cooked without seed oils and using beef tallow, butter and olive oil instead.
The Carnivorous website takes orders online and highlights grass-fed beef, free-range chicken, house-made sauces and tallow fries. Of the four addresses, this is the only one where you can order today.
| Address | Previously | New occupant | Where it comes from | Status as of Oct. 7, 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1958 Colorado Blvd. | Cheebo | Skylight Books, with cafe | Los Feliz, 30 years | Targeting late October; no confirmed date |
| 1565 Colorado Blvd. | Eagle Rock Juice Co. | Lou The French On The Rock | Burbank/Toluca Lake area, since 2016 | Soft opening expected end of September; no confirmation found |
| 1581 Colorado Blvd. | Not reported | School of Rock Eagle Rock | National franchise | Opening October 18, founding members first |
| 1632 Colorado Blvd. | Malbec Market, 10 years | Carnivorous | Eagle Rock | Open; online ordering available |
The table shows the pattern behind this fall's changes. Skylight's April announcement, the bakery's late-September soft opening and School of Rock's late-summer debut all came with target dates, and none is confirmed open as of October 7. The Skylight team said publicly that its own target was ambitious. School of Rock has moved its date twice, from August 31 to September 14 and then to October 18. Opening a second location in a building designed for something else takes work. Skylight, for example, has to remove a pizza oven before the bookshelves can go in.
The published reports on these openings carry planned dates, and some of those plans have already changed. Each business's own channel is the place to check for a firm date:
One more note for anyone watching York Boulevard. Zero Fox, the all-day brunch spot at 4607 York Blvd. that opened in September, is in Highland Park, not Eagle Rock, so it isn't on this list.
